Charles Ralph Cox was born July 5, 1935 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to Dennis and Mary (Mason) Cox. He died on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89.
Charles (Chuck) graduated from Kiowa High School in 1953. On July 21, 1956 he married Eleanor Clara Smart in Savanna, Oklahoma. They enjoyed a long, loving relationship of 57 years until her death in 2013.
After being drafted, he served in the Army for 2 years and then returned to the Kiowa area in 1960. Over the course of his life he worked for the Oklahoma Automatic Telephone Company, Rockwell International, and then with the Credit Bureau of McAlester where he joined his wife in the late 1970's. He worked there until he retired in 1997. During his retirement he also worked as a Greeter at Walmart where he met and made lifelong friends.
Chuck enjoyed working outdoors in the yard, keeping up with world events, spending time with his family and friends and watching Western movies, especially the ones with John Wayne. He really enjoyed socializing on Facebook in his later years. Chuck's pride and joy were his sons and their families.
Chuck was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard Cox and Herb Cox; sisters, Alice Davison, Maggie Nunnally, and Media Ann Ainsworth.
He is survived by his sons, Gregory L. Cox and wife, Kathy of Norman, OK, Bradley A. Cox and wife, Cheryl of Lucas, TX, and Charles Stephan Cox and wife, Amy of Sand Springs, OK; grandchildren, Angela Beneventi, Kimberly Koetter, Sean Cox, Courtney Cox, Lindsey Eckard, Mackenzie Burke, Mason Cox, and Quentin Cox; great-grandchildren, Ashton Beneventi, Arrow Beneventi, Tessa Koetter, Rosalie Eckard, Wyatt Eckard, and Parker Burke; sisters-in-law, Cleta Faye Fairless and Lou Nell Emery.
Active pallbearers will be Mason Cox, Quentin Cox, Sean Cox, Kyle Beneventi, Ian Koetter, Trevor Eckard and John-Paul Burke. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck's nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made, on Chuck's behalf, to The American Cancer Society.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Chuck Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Kiowa Cemetery.
