Charles Lynn Crews, 35, of Newport News, VA, passed away Friday, December 10, 2021 in Newport News.  The family will welcome friends for visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chip Lott officiating.  Pallbearers are J. D. Crews, Justin Wood, Adam Wood, Lance Tipton, Eric Daniels and Bill Larue.  Honorary pallbearers are combat vets, Brian Whitlock, Kurtis Lund, and Roger "Fuzzy" Johnston.

Charles "Charlie" Crews was born on December 31, 1985 in McAlester.  Charlie had lived, off and on, in McAlester, Missouri and Virginia.  He graduated from Nevada High School in Missouri in 2005, then enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. He served a total of six years in the Marines, nine months of which was spent in Iraq fighting for the country he loved.  He had also attended high school in Pryor where he was a stand-out on the football team.  Charlie was a very determined and passionate man, and an over-achiever.  When he set his mind on something, nothing got in his way.  He loved fishing, hunting, shooting, bowling and golf; but his real joy was spending time with his sons, Gunner and Kannon.  He was also a big fan of OU football and the Dallas Cowboys.  Charlie was an avid kayak fisherman; he belonged to the Kayak fishing League, the Carolina Kayak Association, and the Norfolk Privateers Kayak Fishing club, and had won numerous awards and trophies in that field.  He was also a member of the McAlester Chapter of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.  He was currently working as a welding instructor at the Tidewater Technical School in Norfolk, VA.

Charlie is survived by his sons, Gunner Lynn Crews and Kannon Mason Crews; his mother, Cheri Minchew and Danny Webb of McAlester; father, Skip Crews and Nancy of Lamar, MO.; grandmother, Johnni Adams of Eastland, TX; grandfathers, John Overton and Lauretta of McAlester, and Ron Crews of Shawnee; a brother, J. D. Crews and his sons, Grady Lane and Griffin Wesley; step-brothers, Michael Kirbey, Jeremy Daniel, and Eric Daniel; step-0sister, Amber Zupan; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his step-father, Dale Minchew; a brother, Wesley Alan Crews; and grandmothers, Jeannette Overton, Patricia Rochell and Ruth Crews.
