Kathy was born November 23, 1954 in Moline, Illinois to Earl and Bertha (Murphy) Shields.  She was a student at Eastern Oklahoma State College for Child Care.  She went to school at Rock Island High School.  She married Theodore "Ted" Gibson on March 20, 1974 in McAlester, Oklahoma and enjoyed 40 years of marriage.

Kathy volunteered at Rowena McElroy's Day Care for 22 years and enjoyed going everywhere with Rowena and the kids.  She loved it when they would go to classes and especially when they went to Durant and stayed the whole weekend and everyone had fun.  She volunteered during the March of Dimes in McAlester and the Special Olympics for Garrett Caywood.  She loved him so dearly as her own grandson and he truly loved his Grannie Kathy.

Kathy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James Howell of McAlester, OK, Eddie and Lindsey Gibson of McAlester, OK and Marshall and Katie Gibson of Wilburton, OK; five granddaughters, Tessa Savage, Sierra Whorton, Kailey Scarborough, Kaylee Patrick and one special granddaughter, Emma Mills; three grandsons, Ryder Patrick, Garrett Caywood, which she loves him as if he was her own, and Ripp Wyatt Gibson, her little man that she loved so, so much; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rick Shields and Charlie Shields of South Carolina; two sisters, Helen Lawhorn and Jolene McFadden of South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Gibson; son, Matthew Gibson; her parents; four very, very special close friends, Mary Ford, Catrina Pope, Tina Gibson and Sylvia Estep.  Mrs. Kathy was loved by so many children in Rowena McElroy's Day Care just like if they were her very own and now Grannie Kathy is with her loved ones, as an angel on all the Day Care children's shoulder to watch over them.  Rest in Peace Grannie Kathy, we Love You!!!!
