Obituary

Carma Sue McMurtrey, 83, of Hartshorne, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at her home with her devoted husband, Frank McMurtrey by her side.

Carma Sue was born on November 13, 1940 in Adamson, Oklahoma to Ethyl "Tince" (Gibson) and Gregg Doak.  Carma grew up in Hartshorne, attended Hartshorne Schools and graduated in 1958.  She was a member of the Hartshorne First Baptist Church since childhood.

Carma Sue met Frankie McMurtrey during her high school years, while they were dating, they shared a great love for dancing and spent many hours enjoying it.  She married Frankie McMurtrey at the Hartshorne First Baptist Church on May 31, 1958.  The young couple moved to Wichita, Kansas and then to New Orleans, Louisiana until returning home to Hartshorne in 1970.

Carma Sue was a homemaker while her children were young and went to work for the Oklahoma State Penitentiary as a typist clerk III in the early 1970's and retired after 27 years of service.  She was a beautiful woman inside and out.  She was a wonderful wife and mother who taught her children to have pride in themselves, providing unconditional love and strong values. She loved to provide her children with wonderful experiences, camping at the lake, boating and skiing to name a few. Carma Sue was great at making Christmas memories and making the best dressing and candy for her family.

After becoming a grandmother, Grandma Carma strongly suggested to papa Frank "I want a pool" which was given immediate attention.  This pool became the gathering place for family and friends and where she taught all of her grandchildren to swim.  She was adored by those grandchildren.
