Obituary

Beverly (Shaw) Sewell, 62, of McAlester, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City surrounded by her loved ones.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester with Rodney Briggs officiating.  Burial will follow at the Masonic Section of Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keyton Maverik Davis, Brady Bailey, Tim Shann, James Wiley, Brad Dalpoas, Cody Zachary and Payton Pippins.  Honorary pallbearers will be Anita Allison, Skip Rowell and Chad Bruton.

Beverly was born on August 20, 1961 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Bob and Linda Beth (Wolfe) Shaw. She graduated from McAlester High School in the Class of 1979 and was on the basketball and rifle team.  Her passion since a young child was horses, a love shared by her father Bob Shaw. They spent many hours riding, caring and training their horses with long talks each evening sitting out by the barn along with Liz Shaw.  As a child and teenager, you could find her riding bareback with her hair flying in the wind.  On the weekends she was your rodeo round up queen demonstrating her amazing horsemanship skills.  She attended East Central University and cosmetology school.  She started out working in cosmetology for several years then transitioned into the jewelry business. She owned a local business for 30+ years, and most recently was working at Wylie's Bespoke Jewelry as store manager. Over the years she supported numerous projects in the town of McAlester, always donating her time or services. She had 4 children and spent their childhood years supporting them in all their activities and loved doing the same for her grandchildren.  She loved spending each holiday with her family at her mother Beth's house and loved the peacefulness of a lake at sunset. She recently experienced her first plane ride to California where she decided to go all out and ride every roller coaster. A memory that makes us smile.  She was a dear friend who would help anyone with a handful of those friends she held close for many years. She worked tirelessly, always taking care of others before herself.  She had a heart of gold and worked hard in all she did.  She was someone that many say was so easy to talk about anything.  She will be forever missed by so many.
