Betty Lou Boyd, 89, of Tulsa, formerly of McAlester, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, in Tulsa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 13, at 10:00 a.m. at the North Town Church of Christ, with Randy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jake Adams, Luke Adams, Will Adams, Rhett Brantley, Jake Boyd, and Cameron Mann. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Burnham, Tony Housley, Robert Daniels, Dwayne Shores, Terry Williams, Jerry Matthews, Joe Clifton, Joe Wilson, Men of Northtown Church, and special friends Sue Hobbs and Chriss Cates.
Betty Boyd was born on April 4, 1934 in Choctaw to Famous Newman and Illa (Wall) Newman. When Betty was a child, her family moved to the Kiowa area where she attended school. Betty married Garner Boyd on Nov. 3, 1951, and after years in Kiowa, they made their home in the McAlester area in 1981. Betty worked as a rural route mail carrier for a few years before becoming a full-time wife and mother. Betty loved going to garage sales and antiquing, and had her own antique booths. She also spent many hours caring for her loved ones. She was a member of the North Town Church of Christ.
Betty is survived by her children, Danny Boyd, Debbie Burnham and husband Curtis; 7 grandchildren, Amanda Adams and husband Brent, Cody Brantley, Rhett Brantley and wife Jamie, Jake Boyd and wife Savannah, Kortney Mann and husband Cameron, and Joe Burnham and wife Donna; great grandchildren, Jake, Luke, William and Elle Adams, Olivia, Rylee and Matthew Brantley, Dallas and Drue Boyd, Jentri Kay Mann, Allana Granger and Dally Brantley; a brother, Mike Newman and wife Janis; and a sister Shalie Miller and husband Gary. She had many wonderful nieces and nephews that she adored. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garner Boyd; and a brother Marion Newman; and a special friend, Jean Wren.
