Barney Joe Rosso

Barney Joe Rosso, Jr.,79, of Hartshorne, passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Sallisaw Veterans Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Services will conclude there upon the rendering of military honors by the Wilburton VFW. Pallbearers are Benny Curliss, Micha Mass, Billy Morrow, Don Roberts, Jimmy Kurilko and Kent Deligan. Honorary pallbearers ae Jim Nevills, Jim Pingleton, Carl Baker, Frank Dear and Roy McCarrol.

Barney Rosso was born on March 18, 1947 in McAlester to Barney Rosso, Sr. and Fannie (Zena) Rosso. He grew up in Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1965. In July of that year he joined the U. S. Army and served during the Viet Nam war, receiving his honorable discharge in 1968. Barney returned to Hartshorne, and began his work career, which covered many aspects. He worked in the underground mines at Howe for several years and worked up to conductor for the Rock Island Rail Road for a few years. But he is best known as owner of Barney’s Radiator Shop in Hartshorne. He also restored cars, worked his cattle, and served on the Hartshorne City Council for a number of years. He also bred and raised several different breeds of dogs. Barney was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of the Blue Mountain Cruzers Club, and helped start the annual Blue Mountain Car Show in Hartshorne, and headed that up for 21 years. He was married to Elizabeth Faye Curbow on Sept. 14, 1977.

Barney is survived by his sons, Cody Rosso and Monica, and Nathan Sparks and his wife Amanda; grandchildren, Braden Sparks, Paige Mouser, Kenlon Rosso, Bryler Rosso, Kory Sparks, and Shylon Sparks; a great grandchild, Presley Mouser; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim Ray Rosso and Sharon; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Kent Deligen; and nieces and nephews, Angie Kirk and James, Joe Rosso and Tasha, Kristina Heitiner and Seith, Kristen Wayman and Todd, and Ryan Deligan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Ricky Sparks; his parents, Barney, Sr. and Fannie Rosso; and a sister, Margaret Rosso’ and grandparents, Martin and Maryann Rosso and Joe Nick and Angelina Zena.
