Alene Boatright-Reed, 92, of McAlester, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022 at McAlester Regional Health Center.  The family will welcome friends for visitation and viewing on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers are her grandsons, Brent Boatright, Glen Boatright, Aaron Boatright, Jeremiah Boatright, Blake Boatright, Lane Couch, Deacon Boatright, Trent Boatright, and Kenny Smith.

Alene Boatright-Reed was born on March 3, 1930 in Haywood to Lonnie and Luby (Davis) Cravins, one of 13 children.  She grew up and attended school in the Haywood area, then moved to McAlester.  She married Sam Boatright and he preceded her in death in 1975.  2 years later, in 1977, Alene married Kenneth Reed, and he also preceded her in death.  Alene worked at Elsing's Manufacturing as a seamstress for several years, then went to work at Blevins Nursing Home as a beautician for over 30 years.

Alene took a lot of pride in personalizing the design of quilts for each family member.  She adored her two boys, they were her life.  Her eyes lit up every time she talked about them, both

as children and adults.  She loved being a mother, but more than that, she loved being a grandmother.  She spoiled all the grandchildren like no other.  They spent many days at her house.  Some of the best childhood memories are from the house on the mountain, which included fishing at the dam.  She was a wonderful cook (biscuits and canning) and enjoyed flowers and gardening.  Most of all, she was an avid bingo player and enjoyed when the family would join her.  She was a strong-willed woman with few words, but a nice smile.  She never wanted to put anyone out or ask for anything.  She was content, happy, and extremely independent.  She loved watching OU football and listening to the McAlester Buffaloes games on the radio.  She was also a dog lover, and was always willing to help with other family member's dogs.

Alene is survived by her son, Billy Jack Boatright and wife Karen; grandchildren, Julie Pierce and Ben, Brent Boatright and Veronica, Tiffany Boatright and Emilio, Shawn Melton and Jennifer, Chris Melton, Glen Boatright, Jr., Aaron Boatright and Lindsay, Sherri Davis and Mark, Susan Boatright, Jeremiah Boatright and Lori; great grandchildren, Kaylee Zachary and Jacob, Emily Pierce, Deacon Boatright, Tinzley Boatright, Trent Boatright, Chloe Boatright, Lane Couch, Keely Couch, Kasyn Davis, Katie Davis, Payton Davis, Brandon Boatright, Lindsey Boatright, and Kenny Smith;  great great grandchildren, Klover and Koral Beauchamp and Khoen Carney; 2 brothers, Johnny Cravins and Jimmy Cravins; and 2 sisters, Gladys Pierce and Wilma Corhn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Luby Cravins; both husbands, Sam Boatright and Kenneth Reed; a son, Glen Boatright; a stepson, Sammy Boatright, a stepdaughter, Velma Dearing; her brothers, Clarence, Sammy, and J. W. Cravins; sisters, Imogene Buchanan, Eda Belle LaPuzza, Ruby Duval, Louise Turner, and infant sister Dorothy Mae Cravins.
