Alejandro Mertz Vega, Jr., age 76, of Seguin Tx., passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.  There will be visitation on Thursday, September 12, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester, starting at 6:00 p.m., then there will be a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, September 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs.  Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery.

Alejandro Vega, Jr. was born on June 29, 1948 in Sequin, TX to Alex and Elia (Mertz) Vega.  He grew up there and married Mary Johnson on February 11, 1968.  Alejandro worked as a train engineer for Santa Fe Railroad until they merged with BNSF railroad.  He continued working until he retired in 2001, after 33 years of service.  He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until 1974, when he received his honorable discharge.  In his spare-time he enjoyed fishing and working in the yard.

Alejandro is survived by a daughter, Debbie Vega; a son, Tony Vega; 5 grandchildren, Mary-Elia Vega, Jaden Vega, Abagail Tovar, Jonzey Vega, and Alejandra Tovar; a brother, Richard Vega and wife Norma, and several other siblings; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary.
